If you’re just after a N900, your cheapest bet might be going for the unlocked option. In the UK that would mean setting adrift £440-£499. Great if you’ve got that sort of cash lying around. Plus you’ve got to fork over extra for data/calls/text.

Open Source Game Completed by Symbian
It started all 18 months back even before Android and iPhone that Symbian is going to adopt open source model, giving billion dollar worth codes freely to the developers. It is the move pushed forward by Nokia as Nokia is the majority shareholder in the foundation with other major industry players backing it. What is surprising now is that Symbian is head to head with Maemo, a sole open source initiative of Nokia. But the battle of operating systems in mobile heats up now as Android, iPhone and Droid are the warriors in the field. The rate of innovation will increase and it needs to be seen how the ecosystem will have metamorphosis in coming days.

N97 v21.0.045 Firmware...a Phone Transformed
On Monday 1st February Nokia released the v21 firmware for the N97 and with this release I believe Nokia have finally got it right. Most early adopters are going to be finding themselves really wishing the N97 had been released with this firmware from the outset.
The official change log for the firmware is:
- Improved call reliability
- Smooth touch screen scrolling
- Browser improvements
- Music player improvements
- Improved image and video stability
However, after a few days use I can say that the changes are far more expansive.

That’s right. Stories of Symbian and the Colalition decided to drop some news on all of yall: we are now open source. The best part is that it’s actually the latest version, Symbian, which is also supposed to ship on upcoming Nokia handsets this year. Bring it devs! The largest OS on cell phones has decided to drop a bomb on the rest of the world and ‘bring it’ in a way all their own. So when you sit around and say Apple, RIM, Android are the largest OS’, sit back and relax because Symbian has been around for a long, long time.
