Mobile Review

I attended the Wireless Tech Forum Meeting today at The Ashford Club, Atlanta. Today's topic was Wireless Applications and Mobile Media. An excellent session with a great presentation by Jerry Rocha, the Sr Director of Mobile Research at Nielsen Mobile (formerly Telephia). Jerry presented some great information on patterns, trends, usage stats on mobile media and mobile apps. Here are some highlights from the session :

The team I work with has just launched the BBC's on-demand player on Nokia's new phone - the N96 - and I have to say I think its super cool.  I was really excited when I saw this outdoor marketing for it last night while I was cycling home.  When you work with lots of digital content and services, its nice to see something physical, in the real world recognising what you do.

The BBC iPlayer has been available on the iPhone for a while now but this is the "next step" (as my boss says) for what we're doing in this space.  Stay tuned.

I'm a news junkie and thus listen to quite a bit of AM when I drive. Am reception in my area is not very good and on long drives I lose my normal 24hr news station.  So I use the iphone as a digital radio (another post on this coming soon). However, I get a bit of engine noise on my iphone when its plugged into the 12v socket. This is not uncommon, but annoying never the less. So in case you play your iphone or other mp3 player in the car while getting power from the cigarette socket; here are a few tips..

- parece que só em pré-venda os números de encomendas já passaram de 1 milhão do T-Mobile G1 com o Android.
- Outra coisa interessante é que a Nokia disse que a interface Touch Sceen deve vir para a série N, que possui as aplicações multimidia como principal foco.
Aliás, sobre o 5800 da Nokia, tem muita gente dizendo que é o primeiro touch da Nokia. Na verdade é o segundo, o 7700 foi o primeiro, mas ele ficou pouco conhecido. Uma das fontes deste erro é a revista Info deste mês.

Ho tenuto il 29 settembre un breve intervento presso il Temporary Center Nokia Business in Relax, di Milano sul mondo dei Social Networking relativamente alla necessità di affrancarsi da un’immagine legata solo al diversement verso una proposta più composita e articolata. Questo Temporary Business Center proposto da Nokia ritengo sia molto interessante ed innovativo.

The iPhone 2.1 software update contains many bug fixes and improvements. To get it, connect your iPhone to your computer using iTunes 8 and click Check for Update.

Update includes:

Decrease in call set-up failures and dropped calls

Significantly better battery life for most users

Dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes

Improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts

Faster installation of 3rd party applications

Fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes for users with lots of third party applications

Improved performance in text messaging

My iPhone 2.1 update went off without a hitch and did not "re-lock" my iPhone.

I've had the 2.1 update installed for a few hours now, and everything seems to be functioning better. the install went off without a hitch, this is how iPhone 2.0 should have launched.  Hopefully the luck continues and I others won't run into problems.
