After using the N95-1 for more than a year and occasionally playing with my wife’s N81 (thouroughly amazed by the capabilities of the N Series devices in the mean while), the E 71 buzz fianlly got to me and I decided to trial the E71. The guys at WOM world obliged my request very promptly and shipped the device to me. There were some issues with the delivery of the device by DHL due to some confusion over a customs duty but I finally got the DHL package on 08 Oct. What came as a surprise to me was that WOM world had also bundled the BH-602 Nokia Bluetooth Headset along with the E71.

….mancano i tasti dedicati al lettore musicale, ma ve ne sono altri per impostare scorciatoie ai programmi preferiti, una piccola astuzia da parte di samsung è stata posizionare i due tasti dedicati all’apertura del menu e della galleria, ben lontano dai tasti direzionali, in questo modo non si andranno a premere per sbaglio durante l’uso di videogiochi o altri programmi…

As soon as the E71 was announced, it had a magnetic attraction to it. Here was a phone that right from the spec sheet and press photos screamed that I am good, probably the best phone Nokia’s made in recent times. After four weeks of constant usage, the E71 was able to live up to the aura its launch had created for it. That being said, there are still things that the E71 indeed needs to take flak for. This post is a rundown of the ups and the downs on the E71, following on from my initial impressions. The last part of this review will list buyer profiles and hopefully help decide if this is the phone for you.

WHAT NOKIA GOT RIGHT

First of all, I am absolutely miffed at not being able to attend the virtual launch of these devices as such events are something that Nokia is really good at and second it gives people from all around the world, an opportunity to interact with the people behind the scenes. I really hope at least some of you would have been able to tune in and Nokia makes them a regular feature, at random - just to get the pulse.

Now that the initial euphoria that accompanies every device launch has died down, I have been able to collect my thoughts on the impact these devices will have on the market and also at a more micro level.
