Anyone watching BBC1 last night would’ve seen an apocalyptic drama unfold in their new series, Survivors. Well, I say new series, it’s a remake of the original series, first broadcast in 1975, and created by Terry Nation (aka/ the man what created the Daleks). The original Survivors is regarded as a classic. Which just makes it all the more disappointing that the new version is really not very good at all.
And unusually, mobile phones can be used as an indicator of how interminably dull the whole thing was…
Well, Nokia’s Comes With Music service is out there in the wild, and although it’s not been available long, Nokia are already on the hunt for their next all-you-can-eat content buffet type thing to stick in their mobile phones, using the same ‘Comes With’ model, according to Engadget Mobile. Nothing’s been decided (or even properly researched and worked out, it sounds like) yet, but it seems likely that if Nokia want more downloadable stuff for their mobile phones, they’ll turn to the separate worlds of movies and games.
In the future, we could well see Nokia Comes With Movies mobile phones, as well as Comes With Games handsets.
Vaibhav Sharma from thesymbianblog has recently completed a great modification for the N-series flagship, the N96. He has packed the 1200mAh N78 battery into the N96 without any modification. The phone still looks stock and there is only positives to his modification. He questions why Nokia did not go with this solution in the first place stating that Nokia wanted to slim the N96 down, but as you can see this as no bulk whatsoever to the handset. I cant help but think that this will come standard in future release of the N96 handset. Full read below, Enjoy!

I have a strange love and hate relationship with the N96. On the days that I carry my E71, I miss the gaming, music and the camera of the N96 and when I have the N96 I can’t wait to get back to the E71 because of the battery life and speed. However, that might soon change.
As some of you may know various bloggers have been challenged by WOM World to “Face the Task” and use a N96 for various challenges. So far I havent seen too many interesting submissions, until last night. Jonny Bruha from ThoughtsOnS60 has posted his 3rd Task submission, and boy did I enjoy it. Great way to blow the competition away JB! Enjoy!

News has come through from Phones Review this morning, about Korean engineers’ efforts to give the world of mobile phones better batteries. Like, substantially better.
We’re talking mobile phones with double the battery life. Just imagine something like a Nokia N96 lasting for about 3 weeks between charging!
Nokia have released or announced a couple of gems recently. First up, there’s the Nokia N96, the first mobile phone to come with iPlayer built in straight out of the box. Then, there was the Nokia 5800, their first mainstream touchscreen phone. The question on many people’s lips, though, has always been about what mobile phones they plan in future, what cool stuff is coming to blow every other mobile phone out the water?
I’ve gone on at great length recently at what I reckon is going to be the future of mobile phones, and it’s name is the Symbian Foundation. I’ve said many times that when they go open source, with the sheer number of people who are signed up to it, it can’t not be a widespread phone revolution.
It turns out I’m wrong… I was thinking too conservatively…
If you look at the N96, everything about it screams VIDEO. The 2.8″ screen, VGA capture at 30 FPS, 16GB of storage for recording and storage, the dual LED that can be used as while recording and lastly, its box itself - from which the above picture comes. Anyone would think that Nokia has gone all in for making it into a video production and consumption monster. At least I did, before I had the following incredibly frustrating experience. My videos have not been set ‘free’.
Today I was looking through Nokias site and completely forgot about the N79. The candy bar phone with Xpress on covers. The design is simple yet the specifications are immense. The phone has a 5 MP Carl Zeiss, GPS, 2.4″ 16million color display, 3.5mm headphone jack, most if not all the features available with the N85 and N96. But will this phone succeed or will it be left in the dust trails of the more popular N85, N96 and Xpress Music 5800?
We all know there are some really scarily powerful mobile phones headed our way this Christmas… but what if you don’t want to go for the top of the range phone? What if you want something similar, but want to stick to a budget? What if you want a mobile phone that’s nearly as powerful as the really new, exciting ones, but it’s loads cheaper?
What, in fact, if you want awesome power on a budget?
News has come through from Engadget Mobile today, about the latest project from engineers in Umeå University, Sweden. Their new wheeze is a system that lets mobile phones give more physical feedback to someone using them to keep track of a football match. Setting aside my intense dislike (ah, what the heck, hatred) of football for a second, and looking at it purely from a ‘mobile phones’ perspective… well, I’m still not sure it’s that brilliant an idea.
Jonny Bruha has put together and published his thoughts on the N96. He has a lot of interesting points and breaks down his likes and dislikes about the phone, software, etc. In the end he cant recommend that people pick up the N96 in its current state and price instead opting that the buyer should wait for a much improved version that could hit in the future or the N95. Ah, Monday night was brilliant for telly. First, we had Spooks, with a big huge massive ending (and no, I’m still not telling you what it was). And then, the tone changed, as I switched over in anticipation, to E4. After waiting for what seems like ages, the TV miniseries I’ve been waiting for has started.
Dead Set has arrived…
I will get onto the mobile phones in it in a bit, but first, a bit of back story.
