To begin, it must be noted the author is an iPhone addict, and duly biased. And, this review will pit the G1 vs. the iPhone in many regards. The photo shown here was taken with the iPhone (yes, the crappy iPhone camera).
Getting up and running was simple and fast: add the SIM card, power on, and configure the GMAIL account you want associated with your phone.
First catch: make sure the GMAIL account you are using is the one you REALLY want to use. After you add the account, there is currently no way to change it other than resetting the phone to factory settings. See the manual on how to do this.

This week, T-Mobile is expected to launch the HTC Dream - the first phone that will run on Google's Android mobile software.
A new study by Strategy Analytics has predicted the phone will capture 4% of the smartphone market in the United States during the fourth quarter of 2008.
Neil Mawston, Director, Wireless Device Strategies at Strategy Analytics, said, “We forecast 10.5 million smartphones to be sold in the United States during Q4 2008. We estimate smartphones with Google’s Android operating system, led by HTC of Taiwan, will reach 0.4 million units in the quarter, for a 4% marketshare."
T-Mobile USA plans to begin selling the first smart phone powered by Google Inc.'s new mobile software late next month, according to people familiar with the matter.
The phone's manufacturer, HTC Corp. says it expects to ship 600,000 to 700,000 units of the smart phone, dubbed the Dream, this year, a person close to the situation said Monday. The target exceeds analysts' estimates of 300,000 to 500,000.
T-Mobile is expected to announce the phone Sept. 23 and the device is due to hit stores as soon as the end of October. No word yet on pricing although we had previously heard that it will be in the $150-$200 price range.
