Ah, Monday night was brilliant for telly. First, we had Spooks, with a big huge massive ending (and no, I’m still not telling you what it was). And then, the tone changed, as I switched over in anticipation, to E4. After waiting for what seems like ages, the TV miniseries I’ve been waiting for has started.
Dead Set has arrived…
I will get onto the mobile phones in it in a bit, but first, a bit of back story.
You may remember that I’ve blogged about mobile phones on display in the top BBC drama Spooks, before. You may also recall that I said they should probably be jealous of their MI6 equivalent (a certain Mr Bond), because he gets better mobile phones than them.
Well, now that the 7th series of Spooks has hit our screens, we can finally answer the important question: have MI5 given their field agents better mobile phones?
Oh, and is Jo dead, obviously…
As you all know, we keep an eye out for starring appearances by mobile phones on the telly, and in films, and what have you. We all especially love it when it’s a mobile phone like the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (fresh from being used by Batman) and it’s something completely gratuitous.
I’d like to personally thank The Register for this story, since the video for Britney Spears’ new single is, erm, gratuitous in every, single, possible, imaginable way…
Erm.
Ok.
Warning: if you haven’t seen any of series 3 of Heroes, this post DOES contain spoilers!
Woohoo! Heroes is back!
Yes, I’m excited… Heroes rocks, as I’ve said at great length before, even if one of the new villains in this series is basically Pyro out of X-Men, and another is a German and can manipulate magnetism. Now where could we have seen a German super-villain who had magnetic powers, before, hmm…?
Oh, and look, we have product placement in it, right from the get-go! From all the cars being Nissans, through to an African bushman saying he should’ve gone with Sprint (American network, to those who don’t know), it seems everything is back to being business as usual.
The Sony Ericsson X1 is rapidly approaching the Nokia N96 in terms of popularity, which is good going for a phone that’s relying solely on viral marketing. With no above the line ads (or so Sony Ericsson tell us), they’re relying on web virals and, presumably, product placement in movies and TV shows.
It’s a real, real shame, then, that the Sony Ericsson X1 is going to make its first big screen outing in the utterly, utterly, utterly awful remake of Knight Rider.
As an ardent fan of sci-fi, I can’t quite believe it’s taken me this long to actually see Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, since it is, quite possibly, the finest spin-off from a famous franchise, ever.
Oh, and it has mobile phones in it. And the single worst bit of mobile phone selling in recorded history, as well.
Honestly, you wait ages for famous mobile phones to crop up, and then three come along at once! After seeing the iPhone in The Happening (rubbish film, not worth the effort), someone told me about not one, but TWO Blackberry mobile phones turning up in the video for No Air, by Jordan Sparks feat. Chris Brown.
I think ‘turning up’ doesn’t really sum it up, though. I reckon ‘appearing 7 seconds in, and then no shots without the phone till the 29 seconds mark!’ about sums it up.

It’s been a while since we had a post about famous mobile phones, so here goes, as mobile phones have been spotted in the M. Night Shyamalan film, The Happening.
Oh, and I’ll warn anyone reading this, right now, this post does contain spoilers, although, to be frank, they won’t spoil your enjoyment of The Happening as much as actually watching the film itself will ruin your enjoyment of it…
That should give you an idea of my opinion on it…
You may remember, ages and ages ago, I did a story about phones in Spooks, the BBC’s rather awesome drama about MI5. And they didn’t come out well, because they all had rather old, rubbish mobile phones.
But now, there’s a new spin-off show, oh yes there is. And it has a whole new, younger cast. And so, logically, they have new, younger mobile phones!

Yeah, like none of us saw this one coming… Sony Ericsson have confirmed today that the upcoming Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, will feature a Sony Ericsson mobile phone. No surprises there, since Columbia Tristar, who are releasing the next Bond movie, are part of Sony. Well, today, they’ve announced which one of their wide variety of mobile phones will be the next gadget for the world’s favourite spy…

Holy mobile phones, Batman!
Batman, the Dark Knight, has high-tech gadgets, right? We’ve all seen him using them, right back form the old comics, through the Adam West era, up to the latest film, The Dark Knight. Well, they have in America, it’s not been released over here yet. However, the big phone-related buzz about the new film is not the fact that Nokia paid who knows how much to get their mobile phones into it, or the fact that there is a Nokia Dark Knight Edition mobile phone on the way.

You may remember, waaaaaaaaaaay back in time, we did a story about the Porsche mobile phone, and suggested that it might just be the perfect mobile phone for Richard Hammond, the inveterate Porsche lover. Annnnnnnnnnd, we sat and pontificated, and tried to work out what the best mobile phones would be for the other Top Gear presenters. In the end, we finished up designing a Pandaphone for May, and a Lambophone for Clarkson.
