Ages and ages ago, I did a post on the top ultra-super-mega-dirt cheap mobile phones on the planet. You remember, the one where the old Sony Ericsson J110 won. Well, that list was of the absolute low-end budget mobile phones, the phones for people who want ‘em simple, cheap and really nice to use. That’s why I only picked phones without a long list of features (or, with most of them on that list, without a feature).
But what about people who want their mobile phone to be cheap, but powerful? What if you want a mobile phone that does have features, but still has a low price?
Ok, I am going to say straight off the bat that I’m going to be a good boy when writing this blog post, as the content of it, although it would normally make me snigger at someone else’s expense, is actually quite serious, and a deeply unpleasant situation for the two people involved.
Great news from USEB today, as they’re reporting that the Sony Ericsson C905 is officially the best selling mobile phone in the UK this week. According to the weekly stats, Sony Ericsson’s share of the market stands at nearly 29%, a large proportion of which must surely be down to the C905 going on general release; and that, when you consider how many other mobile phones are on sale, is a massive success.
Mind you, having had a play with the Sony Ericsson C905, it’s not that hard to see why. Because it’s brilliant.
Okay, y’know how stories come along that you know you’re not supposed to laugh at, but you can’t help it, because it’s so patently stupid. You know the ones, when part of you’s thinking ‘this is so wrong, I shouldn’t laugh at this’, but the rest of you is crying with laughter.
Yes, these are the stories I keep my eye out for, secretly hoping one of them features mobile phones, so I can blog about it…
Over the past few weeks, mobile phones have started coming out that have redefined the world of the camera phone, and their prime achievement has been to make 5 megapixel mobile phones, something we all raved about a year ago, look rubbish in comparison.
You may well have guessed that I’m talking about mobile phones with 8 megapixel cameras.
Well, since all of the ones that’ve been announced have either gone on sale, or will do soon (and since regular blog reader Diana contacted me, since she really can’t decide which one she wants), I reckon it’s about time I did a rundown of the 8 megapixel mobile phones you can get your hands on so far.
A story’s popped up this morning, through an O2 press release, that’s of particular interest to me, since it’s about live music. And I’m a drummer. And up till recently, was in a band. Basically, O2 are expanding their involvement in the world of live music, and as if that wasn’t enough, they’re integrating mobile phones even more into the equation.
We all know the camera on the Sony Ericsson C905 is brilliant. It’s one of the best cameras out there in the big, wide world of mobile phones. And finally, we have some definitive proof of that, in the form of a new advert for the C905 in FHM magazine, according to Gizmodo. What we have is the world’s first advert campaign that doesn’t bother with proper cameras, and is shot entirely using a Sony Ericsson C905.
Of course, as you can see, the fact it’s got a rather nice lady in her smalls in it can’t hurt.
The mobile phone’s in the middle of the picture, guys, please try and concentrate…
We’ve had a lot of requests asking when the Sony Ericsson C905 will be available. Something about it (possibly the fact the camera’s so ludicrously good?) just makes people want it. It must be good, it’s not a smartphone, and I (the smartphone lover) want one!
So, today should be a good day for anybody after getting one, because the Sony Ericsson C905 is now, officially, available!
So, as a reminder for everyone who wants one, and a wake-up call for anyone who hasn’t decided they want one of these killer mobile phones yet, these are the reasons it rules:
According to USEB, Sony Ericsson are going on the offensive in the coming years, and re-taking their place at the head of the smartphone market. As part of the same announcement, Chief Technology Officer Mats Lindoff said that they’ve over-diversified, bringing out too many similar mobile phones in different product ranges (i.e. two virtually identical mobile phones released in say, the Walkman and Cyber-Shot camps).
Well, yes, a lot of people have noted that. Sister-phones, call them, or the copy-paste strategy. A lot of people have said they don’t like that strategy of making multiple variants of every single mobile phone Sony Ericsson make.
Well, they were first to announce an 8 megapixel mobile phone in the UK (the Sony Ericsson C905), and if rumours are to be believed, it won’t be long before they’re dropping what I’d like to call the double-figure bombshell on us.
Put simply, it’s rumoured on Mobile Mentalism that Sony Ericsson are in the process of designing a mobile phone with a HUGE 12 megapixel camera in it!
(Just to point out, before anyone gets excited, that pic just to the right, ISN’T it…)
A report’s popped up on Vnunet, confirming that Sony Ericsson have been trying out Google Android on a couple of prototype mobile phones. However, it also confirms that there won’t be any Sony Ericsson Android mobile phones for the foreseeable future.
It would seem Sony Ericsson don’t like Android…
Now, this is an interesting story, broken by one of the retailers we have on site, Phones4U. After all the searching for mobile phone news, it pops up on our own doorstep! It seems that very soon, Samsung are going to be launching a second 8 megapixel camera phone, to go with the already-released Samsung i8510 INNOV8. Details are very, very thin on the ground, but we do know its name.
It’s going to be called the Samsung M8800 Bresson. And there’s no point Googling it, since every story links back to Phones4U. So, I’m guessing ‘exclusive’…
I was wandering around the internet this morning, as one does, looking for any mobile phones that might catch my eye. Purely in the name of research, you understand, not because I was waiting for my coffee to start working…
Well, in my ramblings, I came across some actual photos taken with a prototype Sony Ericsson C905 (and I have to thank Virgil Fontaine for taking them, seriously dude, you’ve made my day by uploading these). I’d seen a few demo photos taken with very early prototypes of this stunning mobile phone, so I thought I had some idea of what to expect.
I was wrong.
Eight megapixel mobile phones have started to hit the news left, right and centre, recently. We’ve had the Sony Ericsson C905… We’ve seen Korean manufacturer Samsung’s contender, the i8510 INNOV8…
And now it’s the turn of the other Korean giant, as we say hello to the LG KC910, or as some sites (especially Russian ones, for some reason) are calling it, the LG KC910 Renoir.
