Nokia Celebrates My Birthday - Starts Shipping The 5800 & S60 Follows Suit - Launches A New Ambassadors Campaign

As part of my Birthday celebrations, Nokia today announced that they had started shipping the 5800 Xpress Music in select countries around the world including Russia, Spain, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Finland, among others. What such an announcement usually means is that you should start seeing the 5800 in stores near you within a week or two. The price will vary from region to region, however in India it is expected to retail at around the Rs. 21,000 mark. This press release means that we could see the 5800 come out in December itself, and not January like we had earlier heard.

S60 Ambassadors - Its Time To (E)N-Gage

I have to admit I am a little late on this, but hopefully this post will serve as a reminder in case you guys are missing out. The latest Global campaign N-Gage ‘Reset Generation’ went live late last month.

As a big incentive for the first 500 Ambassadors to who sign up for this campaign, Nokia/S60 will be giving away a free activation code for Reset Generation. I am happy to confirm that there are still plenty left so its not too late. Also up for grabs is a copy of “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” for the next 12 weeks in you happen to pen the “Report of the Week”.

E63: A Cheaper Option To The E71 Announced

Nokia today announced the E63, the latest addition to its Eseries range on devices. The handset, modeled on the E71 is a QWERTY based S60 with a 2.0 megapixel camera, WiFi and 3G connectivity, and S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 on board. It is expected to start shipping in the next few weeks, will be available in two colours, ruby red and ultramarine blue and will cost €199 (INR 12,500) before taxes or subsidies.

Major features/differences with the E71:

In The US? Save 30-40% on eBay Purchases - N85 For Less Than 400$

This is insane. But apparently, with a bit of intelligent surfing you can pick up a brand new N85 for less than 400$ if you happen to live in the US. The final price you get may even be less than 350$ as was the case with Mark from The Nokia Blog who just bought his for 336$.

Microsoft is currently offering 30% cashback on purchases made on eBay and if you add to that an ebay coupon, it makes for a nifty discount. This scheme works for almost anything thing you want to buy off eBay and you can even pick up an N96, N95-4 or an E71 this way.

Nokia Software Updater ver 1.4.56 Released

It seems Nokia has released a new version of the NSU. The Nokia Software Updater is updated to v1.4.56 from the earlier v1.4.53.

I don’t have details of any improvements made/ changelog, but for those who want the latest software on their PC, its time to update.

All you needed to do was to register at the Nseries Fusion Challenge website and leave your username in the comments section. Unfortunately, the contest was limited only to those of you in India and we had a total of 55 comments staking their claim. Each comment was assigned a number and the winners were chosen by generating 3 random numbers from Random.Org.

We Are Moving

I started this blog in May 2007 and since then at various times I have felt the need to have greater control over the blog which Wordpress.com doesn’t allow. Since I have no background in graphics and web design, I kept myself from moving to a self hosted blog. However, I have now decided to take the plunge and move the site to a hosting of my own and see how it goes.

Nokia To Accquire Symbian & Set It Free

Nokia To Accquire Symbian & Then Set It Free

This is huge news. As you may already know Nokia currently holds the controlling interest in Symbian, however  not satisfied with that they are going to acquire a full 100%. The net cash outlay from Nokia to purchase the approximately 52% of Symbian Limited shares it does not already own will be approximately EUR 264 million.
