Ok, this next story may have well have got drowned out in all the shouting about the Nokia N97 (yes, that included me going, “Want one, want one, want one!“), but the release of the smartphone powerhouse wasn’t the only news Nokia had to tell us yesterday.
According to the Boy Genius Report, Nokia also confirmed that their full acquisition of Symbian has now gone through. So, no more wrangling, no more negotiations, Nokia’s now in charge of the Symbian universe.
Which means what, exactly?
Well, it turns out the people who were secretly wishing for a new phone from this morning’s announcement were right after all. Headlining the Nokia World conference is a brand new mobile phone from the Finnish manufacturer. And anyone who guessed ‘touchscreen Nseries’ was right…
It’s the next evolution of Nseries mobile phones: the frankly mind-blowing Nokia N97. And it’s just biblical in its awesomeness.
Very intriguing news today, as it seems Nokia have something big in the works for their Nokia World conference, starting tomorrow. As yet, no-one knows precisely what they have in store, whether it’s new mobile phones or new services, or whatever, but it’s reasonably certain they wouldn’t put a big countdown online (that big one just up there), unless it was a big announcement.
The question is, what do Nokia have in store?
Its no secret the Nokia 5800 is the phone to look out for this year (next year for some countries), and it has officially launched according to Nokia in select countries (Russia, Spain, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Finland). The 5800 has a 3.2″ touchscreen, 3.2MP camera, GPS, 3.5mm headset jack, and HD display. I personally cant wait to get a hold of this device. But alas I will have to wait until next year. Enjoy the rest of the world :).
Mobile Burn has a four part review on the highly anticipated Nokia Xpressmusic 5800. The 4 videos detail almost everything that you need to know about the phone. Hop over to Mobile Burn for the full vids and article.
User SR1329 from HoFo has uncovered an old article (dating 2007) regarding Nokia’s patented touch screen vibration technology, Haptikos. Many handsets on the market today support physical feedback but this involves the whole phone vibrating. Haptikos offers technology that will emulate actual physical buttons on a touch screen with clicks, and button depression. This sounds very similar to the technology that is seen on the yet to be released BlackBerry Storm. Whether its the same type of technology is unknown. But it seems as though Nokia’s is more specific to each button while the Storm is more of a whole screen depression.
BGR has found the Nokia 5800 available for pre order on a site in Spain, but something looks wrong, AH! the price. According to the site the 5800 will sell for €429 or $548, this is quite a bit of difference from what was announced from Nokia back a couple months ago. According to Nokia the pricing should be around $400. Could this be an early adopter price hike? or standard pricing? Once the device hits more markets and retailers we should find what the true price will be. For the full read hit the link. Enjoy
Nokia have released or announced a couple of gems recently. First up, there’s the Nokia N96, the first mobile phone to come with iPlayer built in straight out of the box. Then, there was the Nokia 5800, their first mainstream touchscreen phone. The question on many people’s lips, though, has always been about what mobile phones they plan in future, what cool stuff is coming to blow every other mobile phone out the water?
Yes, I’m back, and normal service will now be resumed, although we’re staying on the marketing theme. Nokia have set up an innovative new way to market their Comes With Music service, the one that lets people pack their mobile phones with songs (you know the one, the one that’s like iTunes but with free stuff thrown in).
So, what would be the best way to market your new mobile phones service? A viral video summoning demons, perhaps? Some guy who’s lost his memory, and needs mobile phones to find out who he is? (And yes, both those are genuine viral campaigns)
S.Litchfield has released a new episdoe of his wonderful show and has some helpful tips on purchasing a new mobile device. He breaks the buyer into three groups and from there recommends some great phones. A worth while watch for anyone that wants to buy a new phone soon. He also has a good hands on review on the highly anticipated XpressMusic 5800 by Nokia.
Enjoy!
It always does my heart good to see patently mad ideas for mobile phones. It’s even better when that mad idea is, in fact, completely genius at the same time. Well, that’s case with a new concept mobile phone by Rune Larsen.
According to Softpedia, it has a touchscreen, with built-in, inflatable, balloon-y keys on it…
Mental, but genius.
Annoying news, now, for anyone who’s been waiting to get hold of the Nokia 5800 Xpress. According to Pocket Lint, the new touchscreen mobile phone, Nokia’s first mainstream touchscreen device, has been delayed, and won’t be seen on these shores till 2009.
That’s annoying.
You would’ve had to have been living under a very big and heavy rock not to be aware of the launch of the T Mobile G1, the very first mobile phone ever powered by Google Android. However, very few people have actually had the chance to play with one.
Well, it’s not the real thing in the flesh, but now everyday folks like me and you can have a muck around with it, virtually, online, as T Mobile have put up a T-Mobile-G1-stylee-emulator-thing, to let people fiddle with the menus, and see how it works.
CNETASIA has some wonderful pictures of the XpressMusic 5800/Iphone/Omnia. They have captured the devices stacked and side by side giving potential buyers the chance to see how each device stacks up against each other. Hit the links to get the full scoop. Enjoy!
